Over 99% of viruses removed from room air: deconta R150 convinces in efficiency test - december 2020
Isselburg, Valley, 17.12.2020 - After only 45 minutes of device operation, the recovery of active viruses in a closed room was reduced by 99.43%. This was the result of a test of the deconta air purifier R150 by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP (IBP report no. UHS-074/2020). The deconta was tested for efficiency in reducing and inactivating airborne viruses. The result of the three-part trial is convincing: after activation of the deconta room air purifier R150 in trial phase 2, significantly fewer airborne viruses were detected.
The aim of the study was to test the reduction and inactivation of airborne surrogate viruses (enveloped Phi6 bacteriophage with comparable structure, particle size and environmental stability to SARS-CoV-2) by the R150 air purifier in a specially equipped test room. This was equipped for the study with dummies, desks and chairs to mimic a classroom. The air purifier drew the virus-laden air through the filter duct. Inside the unit, viruses were inactivated by the action of UVC and retained by air filtration through an EN 1822 certified H14 filter. The room with a volume of 127 m³ was exposed to surrogate viruses (enveloped Phi6 bacteriophage with comparable structure, particle size and environmental stability to SARS-CoV-2) for two hours. After one hour, the deconta air purifier R 150 was switched on. The air purifier ran simultaneously with the aerosol generator for one hour (viruses and aerosols continued to be introduced during this time). Within this hour, 2 samples were taken. The recovery of active viruses was reduced by 99.43 % after 45 minutes of device operation. During the investigation, a maximum ozone concentration of 1 μg/m³ was measured in the air. This corresponds to less than 1 % of the legally defined limit value.
"This result is outstanding, because now it has been shown what was always clear to us: that our R150 air purifier also removes airborne viruses almost completely from the indoor air, while the virus load is actually increasing," deconta Managing Director Christian Krolle is pleased to say. "Activating the R150 air purifier for three quarters of an hour in classrooms, waiting rooms or catering areas keeps the indoor air clean during the entire R150 operation."
"We are proud that the R150 room air purifier from deconta has been so successful in passing the Fraunhofer IBP test and has finished with such good results," emphasises Florian Schauenburg, CEO of SCHAUENBURG International GmbH. "This test result shows that all users of the deconta R150 can rely on healthier indoor air."
